Point Pleasant is built for beach days, but when the weather turns, the boardwalk fills up, or the group wants something that doesn’t involve sand in the car, the best Plan B is an escape room.
The nearest ones are about fifteen minutes inland in Toms River. A few more sit a bit further up the coast in Neptune and Long Branch.
Here are all five, compared side by side first so you can pick quickly.

Solve The Room NJ Toms River (That’s Us!)
We’re right on Route 37, fifteen minutes from Point Pleasant.
Maybe twenty if you hit the light at Fischer Boulevard wrong.
We run three escape rooms built for different skill levels. Jail Break is our hardest at 6/6 difficulty with a 25% escape rate. Escape the Bar sits at 5/6 difficulty and a 40% escape rate. Pharaohs Tomb is our beginner room at 4/6 difficulty with a 60% escape rate, and reviews recommend it if you’ve never done an escape room before.
Pricing is $30 per person with a two-person minimum, or $25 each when you bring four or more.
No weekend upcharges, no hidden fees.
The Egyptian room gets the most beginner bookings. The puzzles flow without leaving you stuck on one lock for twenty minutes, and the theme’s familiar enough that you’re not spending half your time figuring out what decade you’re in. All three rooms are private bookings. You’re never paired with strangers.
We’ve got a 4.7 rating across 404 reviews, and the parking lot fills up most Saturday nights.
If you’re coming from Point Pleasant on a weekend, book online a few days ahead. October and November are busy because everyone’s looking for the same rainy-day Plan B.
East Coast Escape Room
East Coast Escape Room is at 1747 Hooper Avenue in Toms River, about the same distance from Point Pleasant as we are. Different route, same fifteen-minute drive.
Their three rooms are Pier Pressure, a boardwalk mini golf mystery, Sweet Tooth Candy Shoppe, where you hunt for a secret candy recipe, and Dreamcatcher, a dream world you have to wake up from before time runs out. Each game is private and runs up to an hour.
Children aged 0 to 6 play free, up to three per game with a paying adult. Pricing is $30 per player Sunday to Friday. On Saturdays a two-player game costs $90, so $45 each.
The catch is choice. With only three rooms, bigger groups have fewer options, since Sweet Tooth Candy Shoppe takes six players at most. One 2022 reviewer said only one of the three rooms could fit their group, so they ended up in a room they guessed wasn’t the most exciting. If you’re a pair planning a Saturday, note the higher per-person price above.
Exit 4 Escape Rooms
Exit 4 is also in Toms River, at 1311 Route 37, a short hop from us.
It leans theatrical.
There are four rooms: Room 172, a haunted hotel inspired by The Shining and Twin Peaks, 3 Suns Cantina, a sci-fi western, Cabin of the Jersey Devil, and Davy Jones’ Locker, where you play ghostly crew retrieving treasure from a sunken ship. Every game is private, costs $35 per player, and needs at least two people, with up to ten allowed.
The Jersey Devil cabin is dimly lit and scary, and the venue says plainly that it isn’t suited for children.
One reviewer said a group of nine-year-olds found Davy Jones’ Locker “a bit too tricky without a bunch of hints and some help from the adults.”
At $35 a player it costs more than we or East Coast do, and reviewers notice. A 2026 reviewer who brought six people called $35 a person for one hour “a lot for a family of 6” and wished for a flat rate. A 2023 reviewer said the room felt too small for the largest group sizes it advertises. Factor both in for big groups.
Solve It Sherlock Escape Room
Solve It Sherlock is the furthest north of the Shore options, at 708 Highway 35 in Neptune.
Expect a longer drive than Toms River.
It’s the one to look at if you’ve already done the easier rooms. Its five rooms are rated out of 10 for difficulty: Pirates of the Golden Skull at 6, Legend of the Pines (a Jersey Devil story) and Sacred Stones (a Mayan tomb) at 7, Nautilus Rising, a sci-fi submarine, at 8, and The Magician’s Secret, a mystery set at the 1893 World’s Fair, at 9.
Each room runs 60 minutes. Most take two to eight players, while The Magician’s Secret is for two to four.
They’re open every day, 12:30 PM to 10:30 PM on weekdays, 11 AM to 10:30 PM on Saturdays and 11 AM to 8:30 PM on Sundays. They also bring portable escape tents to events, with a two-hour minimum booking.
The site doesn’t publish prices or age guidance, so check before you book with kids.
It isn’t the gentlest first pick. One reviewer called the Pirates room “pretty difficult for our group as beginners,” and a 2025 reviewer said the two of them weren’t able to finish in the time and recommended parties of three or more.
Price is the other sticking point. A 2026 reviewer put it at $35 a person, the same however many people come, and called it “the ridiculous price.”
Escape the Puzzle
Escape the Puzzle is at 473 Broadway in Long Branch, the furthest from Point Pleasant of the five.
There are eight, all 60 minutes: Society of Secrets, Witches Brew, Pirate, Carnival, Tower, 3 Keys (a steampunk adventure and the one listed as hard), Animal Kingdom and The Ultimate High-Stakes Date Night (Table for Two). Most are rated medium.
The venue says its Carnival room has no shock factors or scary surprises and that children aged six and under play free, which makes it one of the easier picks with small kids.
Table for Two is designed exclusively for pairs, so it suits couples.
Prices aren’t published on the site, so check the booking page first. One December 2024 reviewer wrote, “I certainly don’t think it was worth the almost $40 per person cost.”
Another reviewer, in 2025, said an attendant kept coming into the room to tell them how to finish, even though they hadn’t asked for help.
Which Escape Room Should You Book? Our Pick by Group Type

Our Pharaohs Tomb room is recommended for beginners and has a 60% escape rate, so it’s a good starting point for families or first-timers.
